Re: Life, The Universe, and Everything

Good luck, Bob! Doug never posted the details here because he was trying to patent it to keep the IP in the public domain. Do you have access to that private information? As I recall, Doug stumbled on gonzo mode while doing some preliminary setup and was not yet doing systematic experiments, and he ...

Re: Life, The Universe, and Everything

My condolences to Doug's friends and loved ones here. I was sorry to hear he had gone. May he rest in peace.

I came here, like many, having heard many years ago about Doug's fusor fame, and curious to see if he was the Real Deal. He sure was. I've come back on and off when I wanted to get some ...

Re: Ions look like a lossy capacitor

Well, it's neither scientific nor polite to stick too stubbornly to a hypothesis, but nothing you've said indicates to me that it wouldn't be Landau damping. Landau damping doesn't require a hydrodynamic plasma, nor even a plasma with a thermal velocity distribution. It also works for nonneutral ...

Re: Ions look like a lossy capacitor

Nice to see some data! At a glance, this looks to me like Landau damping, i.e. wave damping on the electrons without collisions or dissipation. The waves are giving their energy to the particles, just like you would want, except that it's probably the electrons getting boosted rather than the ions ...

Re: New H bridge driver for AC fusor drive

Sounds like you're broadcasting, all right! One thought - perhaps instead of measuring voltage, measure current. This could be done with a loop around your RF solenoid, or with a Rogowski coil around the lead. This should give at least an estimate/upper bound on grid voltage, since high-side IV ...

Re: Runnin with AC drive, re-circulation seen, likely

Preliminary congratulations on your interesting preliminary results, Doug! Being able to drive the thing with AC is indeed a milestone - now some real physics can get going.

Is your Faraday probe signal showing current or voltage? Also, is it surprising to you that it only shows positive signal and ...

Re: Remote control shakedown run

Doug - by all means, take your time! I didn't mean to put any pressure on. As I'm sure I don't have to tell you, when you get close to success is sometimes when you have to hold yourself in check a bit. When you get over-eager at the smell of victory is when accidents happen. What you've ...

Re: Remote control shakedown run

Congratulations, Doug! I've been rooting for you and checking in almost daily to see if there has been anything to report. Glad to hear there isn't - sometimes "nothing happened" is the biggest milestone!

Waiting with bated breath to find out more about the "breakthrough." What's the status of the ...

Re: 2" Hornyak build details

Hey, Doug,

Can't wait until the Big Reveal! Sounds like it's coming up soon. Even better, sounds like you're getting close to having your remote system online and will soon know if what happened before is reproducible. I'm excited to find out - I'm sure many others are as well.

This thread and ...
