Re: Project: Laser Cutter (CNC)

Jerry,

You are better off with XP. Although I'm retired from the computing game I still do some contract work.
I have found that I have not been able to upgrade from Vista to 7 on certain process machines because
there were no upgraded device drivers for the attached hardware. Sometimes I've had to ...

Re: Hi - Greetings Dave Shanklin

Hi back at you Dave,

I did Computer Systems Analysis for almost 40 years prior to retiring four years back. This site has some pretty good
systems folks aboard but it is my opinion that we could always use some more given the need for process control types
of systems and the advent of small single ...

Re: 3 body problem in nuclei

Kinda reminds me of my Physical Mechanics course so many years ago and the
use of the Laplacian and Hamiltonian viewpoints used to investigate the three-body
problem.

Sometimes one must look at a problem from the energy or momentum point of view
rather than starting simply with position and ...

Re: Hello to everyone from Seattle

Welcome Sergei,

First of all, welcome to a really great group of researchers and friends. As Doug says, your interest
in mechanics will not be wasted here. If you do not believe this look at some of the machine retrofits
to computer control that have been done. Truly great engineering. In addition ...

Re: Learning PIC microcontrollers and C programming

Joe,

I would like to add a few thoughts to Doug's recent code sample for you.

The importance of commenting your code cannot be overstated. With any good-sized program
you will have need in a few years, say, to go back to it and add to it or repair it. Without comments
placed in the code when it ...

Re: Learning PIC microcontrollers and C programming

Doug,

Excellent preview you put together for Joe. This is extremely helpful to a starting C programmer.

Personally I like to align braces and have used the freeware formatting software that does this when I have
gotten myself into a situation where I've not known exactly where I was in the code ...

Re: Learning PIC microcontrollers and C programming

Joe,

I have done C, C++ & C# programming for years and have read many good books on these subjects.

Depending on what flavor of C you will be using I'd suggest going to Amazon and purchasing a
GOOD (read the reviews) book on that particular version of the language. I'm partial to C#
since it is ...

Re: A SEGMENTED LOW CURRENT CW MULTIPLIER

Thanks Doug,

I was going to include measurements with the inverter fed thru a variable LM317 circuit but
couldn't get it to work. Finally found out that the 15 volt laptop supply I was using was bad
and kept shutting itself down. That's why I used the 12 volt fixed supply.

I also was going to ...

A SEGMENTED LOW CURRENT CW MULTIPLIER

I decided to change the way I build high voltage low current Cockcroft-Walton multipliers. Rather than build an N-stage multiplier to fit a given need I decided to build a lot of small 2-stage multiplier boards. When the need arises for a given voltage I can bolt several of the 2-stage multipliers ...
