Re: Stopping X and Gamma rays
There's something to be said about lining the exterior of a reactor with U-238 to use it's capture / enrichment cross section to your advantage.

Re: Why I've been so quiet of late...
The reason I bring up the hybrid fission-fusion, is the same thermodynamic principle of a turbocharger on an internal combustion engine. If you have waste energy not being utilized, why not do what you can to increase the efficiency of the system as a whole, right? Just a long term project idea to ...

Re: Math problem...don't blame the physicists!
All you have to do to realize this as fact is see how the "standardized testing" goalposts are continually moved to give more and more "credit" to the under performers. Graduating high school used to be an achievement, and to accomplish college was something reserved for the elite. Now anyone can ...

Re: Why I've been so quiet of late...
Well heck, surround it with water, put some MOX fuel around it, and get fission / enrichment along with it as a tertiary byproduct increasing energy output???!!
Just throwing thoughts around.

Re: Why I've been so quiet of late...
Sounds like you need to find some stuff with a very high fast neutron capture cross section ;) (good luck, lol)
With that information in the fast neutron attentuation of Pb, I agree that distance + concrete is going to be your best bet. Scary to think about when they actually get "hot" fusion to ...

Good to see your stuff coming together, Doug. Was looking for updates on the new "bunker" and how you were going about shielding yourself with the new setup.
P.S I hear old sailboat keels are great sources for raw Pb.

Re: Lockheed claims breakthrough on fusion reactor.
I am incredibly interested in this if it comes to fruition. A company like LM would not make such a boast without a legitimate breakthrough. Fusion is such a "hands off" topic because of all the snakoil salesmen in recent history, and a company that big would be unwise to venture down that path. I ...

Re: Trading markets
I don't hope for a reset either, but it's bound to happen. Recently there was an article posted that the next one will be the big one, since all the big powers in money are holding all the debt, and when it's called, it will be massive, maybe the last mega bubble.

Not just real estate, but yeah. And they are still making the same basic mistake - that of letting a guy sell you a loan who doesn't have any skin in the game, but sells it on before the ink is dry. Therefore, they have no reason to care if you can pay. It shouldn't be legal, but it appears that it ...
