Surplus Vendors Websites

Postby Bill Fain » Sun Jul 18, 2010 2:52 pm

Hi, This is a work in progress. I have listed below some websites, some obscure, that I found looking for mostly obscure things. I am going through trying to activate the Url's and prune unnecessary stuff. Some are the actual websites and some are a discussion of where to find surplus (including some sites). A lot of the embedded sites might not work, but as of this writing, the ones I list, do. -bill

http://www.surplusgizmos.com - Hillsboro, OR. One of the few surplus stores in the Pacific Northwest left. Mostly specializes in high tech surplus. 8000 sqft warehouse store. A lot of the higher tech stuff is posted on ebay: http://shop.ebay.com/surplusgizmos/m.ht ... m=&_ipg=50

R5-D3, Portland, Or. No web site. Does a huge amount of sale in tubes.

To these I would addMarlin P. Jones for electronics parts.
Also Suplus Sales of Nebraska for electronic parts.
Surplus Center for mechanical parts.
And, American Science and Surplus for "toy" science supplies -- glassware is good there. If they don't know what they've got, the price is right, if they do -- they jack it up.

I would note two things about surplus houses -- I've rarely seen one that packs things well. So don't order something fragile in the same order with something big and heavy.
Never backorder anything from a surplus vendor, even if they say it's fine. You won't be happy with what you get, most likely, or when. Most of the sites can tell you if things are in stock before you make the order.
Posting as just me, not as the forum owner. Everything I say is "in my opinion" and YMMV -- which should go for everyone without saying.

Hi, Made a trip to Skycraft Surplus in Orlando, Florida. Had seen and heard of the place forever, but had not been able to get away from the Big Mouse long enough to visit. The store has a lot of stuff, is very well organized, and has friendly salespeople; who know what they have. They have people continuously stocking and resorting items (not like we rifle through and mix up stuff; well maybe somebody does). Picked up some fusor ion innards, another big ballast resistor, nylon rods, teflon, etc. They didn't have any high vacuum stuff when I visited, but that doesn't mean they won't have any. No vacuum tubes that I noticed, but they have all kinds of new old stock transistors etc. I would highly recommend a visit if you're down that way. -bill
