Re: HV Feedthrough Build

It works great! I've been running 45kV 17mA as my standard setting and it seems to do it indefinitely without trouble. Stalk stays below glowing temperature and heatsinks down the 3/8" shaft very well. I haven't had any arc over issues at up to 60kV testing, and the edge of the glass nearest the ...

HV Feedthrough Build

Thought I'd share my new feedthrough that I'll put to test in a few days (flying home tomorrow for winter break). It is basically a copy of Doug's design. I'm using 1"OD 0.157" Wall Pyrex, with an inside 5/8"OD 0.094" Wall Pyrex slip-fit.

I found a nice way to make the end plug go in and out ...

X-Ray Cathode Current Limit

I have an x-ray cathode heater supply that is just a variac powering an isolated 60hz 2.5VAC transformer, but rather than grounding one side of the filament, it goes through a 1M variable resistor for variable anode current adjustment.

So what I'm wondering, is how does this work. Let's say I have ...

Re: X-Ray Anode

With regards to more details on the source and its geometry to get a very focused beam, I attached an external image of the source end of the system. It's all pumping down with no plans for short term removal so I won't have a picture of the inside where the filament mounts. Also attached an image ...

X-Ray Anode

Not sure if this is really the right posting category, didn't see anything chemistry (maybe something should be added).

Been working with an x-ray source, and recently we've been making various anodes to calibrate some instruments. Tried coating an aluminum anode in sodium chloride today by ...

Re: DRSSTC

It is definitely not CW, ran about 0.5-1% duty cycle last night, with peak currents in the bridge tripping my current limit set at 3kA. It is audio modulated and can play MIDI files, or any realtime midi instrument. Some people took video which I'll post if I ever get the footage from.

Should have ...

Just an update on what I've been doing lately, as I haven't been active in the fusion side of things (since I'm at MIT and my fusor is in Washington). Just finished the third major revision of my tesla coil controller, which will be the final design for the electronics. Fired it up and got a good 5 ...

Re: Vacuum Charge Buildup

After my original post I did some more work on this ion source and came to an interesting observation when I started filtering the magnetic field. The original issue persisted at fusion pressures no matter what I did, so this was basically useless since all the arcing caused instrumentation failures ...

Re: Diffusion pumps

I've been running my fusor on a small 2" air cooled diffusion pump, it seems to work great. I'm running DC704 oil, I don't really have any comparisons to other oils, but I haven't noticed any catastrophic backstreaming. It's a trapless system with a baffle on top of the pump, never changed the diff ...
