Re: Doug's log
Doug, why not just open a margin account? You don't have to use any margin, but you won't have to worry about the day trading flags, and some brokers even pay you interest on your cash balance.

Re: What to trade now - homework
Doug, I think US western refineries could be a pretty good alternatives to BTE as energy sector plays (such as HOC, FTO, WNR). Their margins are benefiting significantly from the large difference (~15%) in price between light crude and brent, since they are refining the cheaper light crude pumped ...

Re: What to trade now - homework
Seeing silver down this morning, I bought some ZSL, in case this is the start of the second leg down in silver correction/bubble-bursting after the "bull trap" if that's what it was. I also opened a sizable (for me) position in CTFO yesterday and today when it fell a little in the morning. The CEO ...

Re: What to trade now - homework
MCP is down 7% and additional 5.7% in the AH on their quarterly results (even though the loss narrowed to $0.03/share and revenues are up from $3mil to $26.3 mil). Are you thinking of buying in at this level? It seems to me from its chart that unless it holds above $60, it could go down to its next ...

Re: What to trade now - homework
Here's another trading idea--CTFO. It's a small Chinese company. It's been trading in a range from $4.5 to about $5 for the last 4 months, and now it's in the middle of the range on the way up. But the most important thing is that it's President, CEO and 10% owner has bought 359,000 shares in more ...

Re: Doug's log
yep, it doesn't look like there's much selling of crude going on at the moment. SCO would've been a good overnight play, but I think the margin increase was announced after the close. It kind of looks like that oil traders were anticipating the increase after what happened with silver, and that was ...

Re: Doug's log
Shorting a leveraged ETF over bying a short leveraged ETF makes sense if you are expecting to hold it through a somewhat long period of ups and downs. If you are expecting prices to trend in one direction (which what I would expect with oil as a result of higher margin requiremets), it's better to ...

Re: Doug's log
It seems you misunderstood what I was trying to say about the daily accrual of dividends. You're right in that the company paying the dividend only looks at who are the stockholders on the dividend record day (which is two business days after the ex-div day), but the dividend is accrued by the ...

Re: Doug's log
CME just increased margin requirements for crude by 25% ($1250 per contract). SCO might be a good play tomorrow. Oil has been kind of shaky lately, and this could send it further down, reversing today's gains and then some.
